Home Stretch

Well, the semester is coming to an end, and at long last I can find time to take fully developed breaths between projects... which is nice.

We closed Metamorphoses last week, and it was a fantastic experience. I know not many people are familiar with the show, but it was completely a-typical of my previous theatrical experiences, and highly rewarding. All the same, I'm glad it's over. That ends all of my performance responsibilities for the semester.

One lighting design left to finish... we have a program called "Lunchbag Theater" where students direct and perform one act plays (for credit) in our black box space. This show is "Zoo Story" by Albee, which is actually quite well known. The basic design is hung, gelled, focused and mostly cued... I have a few notes to add. It performs Thursday of this week, (one show only) and then all is done. All that will remain is finishing the paperwork, finishing the 10 page research paper and handing it all in... then that class is complete.

Other academic requirements include two finals (History of American Music and Philosophy of Art) which don't worry me too much... Music I'll ace and Philo will be just good enough to manage a passing grade for the semester. Tough class, but well worth the dip in GPA it will produce.

Then school is over for the spring, and it's time to head back to the Renaissance faires... two new scripts have been developed, we're in the process of rehearsing them with some new faces in the group, and I think the act will be much improved over last year. Huzzah!

On other fronts, Wifey has taken a job up in Michagan as a scenic artist for the Bay View Musical Theater (I think that's the official title) where she will spend about 6 weeks of the summer. I'll go visit her sometime around July 4, since that's when we'll celebrate our 12th anniversary.

Well, not a lot to report other than that. Not exciting, I know, but something at least to keep y'all up to date. I'll try to think of more interesting things to discuss in the next week or so. Until then, enjoy this lovely production photo from Metamorphoses."

Peace!

Wow dude---more time away from wife. That's gotta be tough. But congrats to her for continuing to make money in theater---at least someone is. Tell her I really like this set design for this play too.

You look pretty good as well, if I'm seeing you correctly in this play on your flickr photos. I hope I get to see you preform again at some point.

Love Zoo story---what are your summer plans after the pressure is off?

Well, for most of the summer I'll continue to work in the KSU scene shop doing some capital improvements and such. We have four ren faires booked (Including the Nebraska R.F.... last weekend in May close to Omaha... for details visit: http://www.festint.com/ which would provide a chance for you (and the family) to come see us perform something! I've got writing projects galore, and a little video editing project to keep me buisy.

Glad things have gone so well for you. I'm watching them day by day build our new regional school. Looks like next year I'll finally be just at the high school and when the new school opens for good in the fall of 07 I might *crosses fingers* be able to include a theatre class (which is now being taught by the librarian - don't get me started).

When the new building opens our school will, for the first time, have a theatre. It won't be the biggest or best and will only seat 380 or so BUT it will have lighting and sound wired into it, dressing rooms for the kids and a backstage area for storage. Best part of the layout is my room literally opens up onto backstage.

Much better than the gym stage or the small speaker stage at the middle school.
